Neil ... I've never seen one that could do both (properly). Without, that is, massive compromise on the part of the biomeds. Why am I suddenly reminded of Yanbu '93 ... Johnson Controls, and all that [censored]? Centralised call logging perhaps (but only if you insist) ... but after that, there needs to be a split. Man! I've spent half my life trying to get folk to appreciate the difference(s) between "hospital" engineering and biomed. One giant Engineering Department could work, but only if someone like you or I were in charge (that is, not the usual ex-boiler mechanic, chef*, or whatever). * Yes. I kid ye not!

Thats because they operated with separate identification numbers, if the hospital employs a single asset register then it will work. From the Biomed side I am in charge and we have one system and it works

A lot depends on the design of the "numbers" (codes, whatever). For example, how "deep" goes the code go:- 1) Pump level 2) Valve level 3) Bearing level ... etc.Whilst biomed simply tags each item of kit? Or are you just talking about biomed kit plus refrigerators and stuff like that, Neil? Let's not confuse engineering maintenance with property control (although, with a well-designed system, both can be included). But either way, believe me, if it is done by idiots (as it so often seems to be), it will be a crock!

Think I'll just let you guys slug this one out........
Oh, like I could.
TFMS is an old system that simply does not handle asset data detail and histories as well as the system that we use (Service Centre). Could we run a single system? Possibly but it would have to be SC (you also need to remember that in my particular circumstance we are an external provider not a part of the hospital itself hence the use of separate systems)

Tagging done with property control, any item coming into the hospital is tagged through a single asset register, once the end-user has completed the acceptance form the item (biomed kit, office furniture, computers etc) the sticker goes on. No need for diffeent inventories for different departments.

DaveC are you responsible for ALL the biomedical equipment or only a portion, seen the portion bit operating in London and I don't agree with it, either it is done wholly in-house or sub-contracted out as a complete contract.

Does the Property Manager tag the Air Handling Units in the Plant Room(s) ... or better yet (and as previously hinted at), the fan bearings? That's real maintenance management! Sorry Neil, but in the Real World there are many scenarios. That is, many ways of supporting medical equipment, depending upon the nature of the situation in which the kit is used, the type of healthcare facility, private or government, rich or poor, customers expectations ... and all the rest! In your "London" scenario, are you talking about so-called "Managed Equipment Services" (whereby a single contractor typically takes care of all the kit previously dealt with by many contracts)? There's not much wrong with that idea, in my opinion! It keeps things simple, especially in the larger hospitals.

Gents, happy to discuss this all with you but perhaps we should move this away from a topic called "Funny things at work", 'cos this ain't all that funny !!
Huw, would you be able to move this last few posts to another area/title?
Thanks.

Depends upon your sense of humour, I guess. Might as well leave the posts where they lay, I reckon. Especially seeing as how we have been through all this stuff many, many times before!
