We used to have Codemaster XL's. We also had problems with some power supplies, but had them replaced free of charge. It was 4 or 5 yrs ago - so can't remember any more than that. I will try to dig out some more information next week. I am not back in the office until Monday. regards John. smile

It was a problem that HP/Agilent repeated has couple of times over the years. They designed the power supply for the US market at 110volts. Thye then halved or doubled that value of components for use at 220volts. Forgetting electrical circuits are not linear systems. This has led to extra stress on cetain components that are failing - unfortunately I do not know which ones. As the fix was done as a whole unit swap by the company - after we had bought many as we were the "only people to have that problem".
HAve a word with your local sales people about free replacements.

Look at MDA HN1999(04). If your PSU exhibits these faults, AC and charge leds intermittently turning on and off when connected to mains, also if AC and batt charge leds not on at all then its a faulty cap in the mains start up circuit.
This is due to non UK rated cap fitted which is adversely affected by the higer ambient temps when connected to UK mains supply.
If your PSU board is pre 16th June 1999 you can get a freebie from Philips until Dec 06.
If it isnt this fault tell them it is and still get a free replacement.

Hi we have had the same problems, and I thought that "we were the only hospital with this problem" ha ha ha. one thing i noticed is that the screen becomes dark with soot just before they go faulty. It cost us about £800.00 each for new power supplies from HP, not cheap by any standards.

we have 3 units in use for the last 9 years. Only one unit had a PSU problem 7 years ago. After thorough diagnostic inspection of the PSU one of the low capacitance caps was dry. After replacement we had no problems whatsoever.

For everyone's information. I have been told that the Codemasters will no longer be supported from year end 2006.

You used to be able to get out of support dates and the like from the HP/Agilent web site. Does anyone know if it is still available on the Philips site?

Just to clarify the situation regarding EOS (End of support) dates. The official EOS date is normally announced, as in the case above end of 2006. This date is normally around 5 years after the last production run.
This does not mean that the instrument will no longer be supported. This date means that support cannot be guaranteed after this date. Normally spare parts and support is avilable long after the EOS date especially on instruments which were sold large quantities.
What you will normally find is that the electronic parts will be still freely available but obscure mechanical or panel parts may not be available.
We at HP and Agilent even used to offer a service contracts on such equipment, and in the event a repair could not be made we refunded the balance of the service contract value. I am not sure if Philips still do this though.
