Those medical devices can't do it because they're not programmed to do it! You're right in intimating that run-of-the-mill medical stuff is pretty basic when it comes to how "smart" it is. Something to do with getting it approved by the FDA in the first place, I should imagine. As I've mentioned before (and not entirely tongue-in-cheek), probably the only way we're ever going to see such functionality across the board is by bolting on an add-on!

All our kit is default set to GMT. Saves doing the clock changes at all. However there is always some smart person whom figures out how to change the time and still makes a pigs ear of it...rolleyes.

This year I'm resolved to not changing any of my own "clocks" at all. Frankly, I often don't even know what day it is, let alone the time! And (and as some will already know) I haven't worn a watch for many years.

Had to come in on the Sunday to set the time on the central station for two of our monitoring networks, Theatres requested that we change all of their monitors, not sure if it got done. other than that it was all quiet, no defibs, ECG machines etc. We used to do all the defibs but for some reason the users haven't bothered this time round.

As I have said before I cannot see why we don't simply stick with GMT for all official timings. Other than that, I can't help wondering why "Daylight Saving Time" change over dates can't be a programmable option in modern high-tech medical equipment. And lastly, how come the users can't change the time if need be? After all, one presumes that they manage it at home!

Geoff That last point might involve the user reading a manual!!! That could be tricky in that firstly they may not have the manual (it's kept in a safe place), secondly they can't remember where they keep the manual, and lastly, even if they have the manual, it would involve reading all of it because they can't find the relevant section.

*GMT is where we (in Britain) belong. Personally, I've resolved never to change any of my clocks ever again ... hopefully that will start the ball rolling. Ha, ha. I have heard that some want to stay with BST ( ie, GMT+1). But we must resist that at all costs. After all, BST could (and, indeed, does) stand for "Berlin" time! Just to remind younger folk what noon is supposed to mean:- it's when the sun is at its zenith (its highest elevation in the sky)! * Just in case they may be folk out there who do not already know, Greenwich is in London.
