We tend to send these thermometers back for the fixed price repairs when we identify a real fault (£50).
i.e. cracked lens.
Does anyone out there replace probe tips on the above?

We do all the calibrations on them , but if the thermometer is badly damaged ( and some damage takes seeing to be believed ) them its back to Tyco.

We use the Tyco Model 3000-PC calibrator to "weed out" the temp query faults.

Besides cracked lenses and the other physical damage usual faults which we ship for the "fixed" price repair, we find the calibrator a useful piece of test kit.

We can use it along with the software to bring back into spec thermometers.

We did, prior to using the calibrator, have lots of down-time with our thermometers. The turn around time now is very quick.

We attended a seminar held by Tyco with regard to Genius 3000 thermometers.

They said that if the lens or circuit board of the tympanic were damaged, then we should return them to Tyco.

We pretty much replace all other parts ourselves.

I agree that the Tyco Calibrator is a fantastic piece of kit for testing their accuracy without performing a cal check or a recalibration.

Does anyone else use the LOCK facility to prevent the thermometer being used in SURFACE MODE? rolleyes

Also meant to ask, what are your opinions on the Windows style software over the old DOs style?

We use the lock out mode it tends to stop all the annoying phonecalls "my temperature thingy isnt working".

Also is there a new version of the software for the calibrator, we have not recieved it.Do you have to pay for it? rolleyes

Are you using the old DOS blue/black calibration software? confused

If so, then there is a new version available. laugh

I believe it is a free upgrade - we didn't pay for ours. :p

The new software creates a new file for each calibration, rather than over-write the old file for that particular thermometer. This gives greater traceability. Also, if you perform a cal check and the thermometer requires calibration, it uses the first 4 checks and goes straight into recalibration mode (so I've been told). cool

It's probably best to contact Tyco & get them to send it to you. smile

BSM, Do you think the new Windows one is ok or even better, is it worth changing too ?
Th drift I got from your earlier post was that you weren't convinced.

Dave H,

I like the new software. It is more user friendly especially for staff who have never used the calibration software.

I appreciate the ability to maintain a log of all calibrations performed as it provides a means of maintaining a complete log of all calibrations performed on an individual unit.

I don't particularly find the ability to go form 'cal-check' to 'recal' that useful, as I tend to insert the thermometer into the black bodies when the thermometer is in SURFACE mode and look for the correct readings for temperature as a means to perform a quick check.

The downside to the new software is that you need a pentuim class (or better) PC, and a soundcard in your PC to get the audible warnings. I know that most PC's meet these criteria but you never know!

I think you can run both versions on a PC if you weren't sure if you'd like the new version, but I can't say what it would do to the calibration database (I haven't looked into that aspect).

We have two calibrators, one running the old software and the other running the new software. I have less experience with the new software, so I cannot give an experienced opinion on which is best.

I like the look of the new version, even though it is rather plain, so all-in-all, I would have to say that I feel happier with the new software.

Is your rep Karen Thompson? She's our rep and was quite happy to supply the software FOC.

We got a demo of the new software at a Genius 3000 training seminar last year and she sent us the software soon afterwards. smile
