Hello Paul, Thank you for your reply. ECRI is about 2-3 hours away from Maryland (located in King of Prussia area). Unfortunately I do not have an ECRI account but I know it would be very fruitful to have one. I'll ask my boss if we can apply for it depending on the cost ofcourse.
We have been using Datex-Ohmeda Aestiva/5 for the past 8 years now and very pleased with its performance, which is integrated with Philips IntelliVue MP70 vital monitor with Philips G5 gas module analyzer. I think its new version which is GE Datex Ohmeda Aisys which we are looking to evaluate as well.
The only obstacle I saw with this machine was its large foot print which causes mobility limitations. This can be an issue when moving such large anesthesia machine to an offsite location where cases such are performed at Interventional Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology or Nuclear Medicine. Plus now and then the O2 sensor would become erratic.
Nitrous Oxide is somewhat rarely used due to it drowsy effects on the patient when waking up from sedation.
Most of them time the gaseous we use is IsoFlurane/Sevoflurane mixed with air I think.
Ofcourse the main users Anesthesiologists and Nurse Anesthetists would be the major decision makers. My job would be to provide a vendor neutral technical assessment of the ventilators. I'll create a separate eval form for them and then gather all the info and submit it to them.
Thank you very much

Geoff, You're a champ man..made my day..thanks alot for the pdf document. Really really will help me to assess these machines.
Don't trust what you hear Goeff. Like any other institution we have gone through major budget cuts and we are very weary of cost and performance.
I for sure do and will always adhere to that motto. "Spend tax payer's money wisely"...
Thanks a bunch..

Geoff,
We are evaluating 4 vendors GE, Mindray, Drager and Maquet. Wish I could eval Dameca but they are now under the auspicious of Phillips Medical and still going through FDA approval. Hopefully in a year I can evaluate Dameca as well.
Thanks a lot Tim

Hello Geoff, I do agree with your statement. However I feel it is somewhat my duty to inform the users what my 5 cents are. At the end of the day ofcourse they will make the decision of which machine they opt for. But atleast I did my job to inform them and let them be the better judge of it.
I know it can be discouraging but hey atleast it would give me a peace of mind that I did my best to inform my colleagues and fellow peers. I just want them to be ripped off by vendors who claim that their machine is the best in the world....
Thanks
