IPEM - In stitute of physicists and engineers in medicine

Don't think that the HPC (are they still called HPC?) have anything to do with the VRCT. Thery're not on the list. Isn't the VRCT separate from IPEM? Is the VRCT a not-for-profit organisation?

The Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (VRCT) was founded in August 2000 with the primary task of taking forward the case for regulating the Clinical Technologist profession. In October 2004 the Health Professions Council (HPC) agreed that the Clinical Technologist profession should be regulated.

From the VRCT web site.

IPEM and ART (Association of Renal Technologists) act as the front end interface for the VRCT, in other words they are sub-contracted to administer it. To put it simply, they understand the appropriate technical stuff that people submit in their application folders

Almost 12 years old and.............

The only way to enter the Register is now via the Primary Criterion see Guidance Notes

And just to clarify matters:
Fromthe IPEM web site:
Quote:
Please note that registration on the VRCT is not the same as IPEM membership, it is currently administered by the IPEM Office.

And yes the HPC still exists.

I joined the VRCT before the cut-off date as it seems to be gaining traction particularly in the public sector. However, speaking to those in the private sector it seems that they treat this as, if not a bit of a joke, then certainly not worth troubling themselves with. Any thoughts?

Wasn't all that stuff included in the "Bonfire of the Quangos"? think

If VRCT et al had any real value to it, surely it would not simply be "gaining traction" after all these years, but rather it would now be "deeply entrenched"!

I believe the whole thing needs to be re-considered, and (if confirmed to be absolutely necessary) re-launched. And properly thought through and explained this time, as well.

As mentioned before, I would advocate "BMET certification" on the American (US) model. Meaningful. Practical. With everyone set at the same "benchmark" (that is:- if a tech is Certified, then you know what you are getting, as a certain - common - standard must have been attained). smile

'3070 Registrants with 171 applications pending' can't be a bad thing.

'There were 250 Grandparenting applications in November/December which reflected the imminent closure of the route.'

In reply to Graham's post 3070 x £10 not much to run an organisation is it?

Another couple of acronyms for the list:
Who are AHCS & CHRE?

Theseguys will police the police. i.e. they will oversee the work of organisations such as the HPC.
Is this another layer of quango-ism?

AHCs are annual health checks for healthcare providers.

Re: AHCS. OK ... one question, if I may:- who's paying for it all? think

I see that they are "recruiting for chairs". And what are they doing with "Shadow Boards" ... making rabbit shapes?

But at least this was good for a laugh!

I think I'll give it a miss, myself. frown
