Hello Wayne
Can I suggest that you go to the other topic in this section which is entitled 'Electrical testing of lab equipment for CPA accreditation' by Bioman.
Purchase a copy of BS EN 61010-1.

I think the answer you're looking for i.e. where you can get hold of this standard is: British Standards Online . Unfortunately there is a charge for the standard. However you may not have to buy it - perhaps your hospital estates department have a subscription to BSI (speak to the estates officers maybe?); if not then do you have a hospital library? Perhaps they can get you a copy, on a special loan, or alternatively if you have any colleagues, at College or University, they can get access to reference standards no doubt.

Wayne, The Metron QA-90 tests to ISO1010 so if you contact Quados about it they may be able to help you - or find a hospital that has one and get them to look in the manual. I seem to remember that 1010 does not do enclosure leakage currents but voltages - though I think it does have mains leagage currents. Robert I see there have been several names for this standard -ISO, IEC and BS EN. Is there a standard for the names of standards?
My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Don't know but Standards are better than guessing I suppose and quite educational now that the rationale for limits, etc, etc are explained. Does anyone know where I can get a QA-90 for nothing?

Exercise care when using the QA90. WE had a bit of a battle to get Metron developers to accept that there was still a problem in testing to IEC1010. We are now running software version 3.44 which correctly defaults to carrying out an enclosure leakage (current) test if the enclosure volts test fails(NB versions prior to 3.41 DO NOT DO 1010 tests correctly). This still fails quite regularly - on enclosure volts when it should pass, because Metron are still using a 50kOhm load to measure it across. I have yet to review the revised version of 1010 which is now in use, so don't know if there are any more changes that need to be made.
NB beware if you use

Wayne The IEC 61010-1 earth leakage limits are 0.5mA Normal Condition and 3.5mA Single fault condition. These limits apply if the voltage on accessible conductive parts exceeds 33Vrms Normal Condition or 55Vrms Single Fault condition
RoJo The standard numbering does get confusing. The standard was first published as an IEC standard, hence IEC 1010-1. It was then adopted a European Norm. The numbering convention is to put a 6 in front of the number hence EN 61010-1. We adopted it as a UK standard so it becomes BS EN 61010-1.
