Hi all,

I am currently investigating an issue over IBPs on a Draeger monitoring system (Infinity monitors with the Heamomed IBP "pod" system).

My question revolves around the storage of the "zero" value when the transducer is initially connected and zeroed.

Now, I would stress here that I have my own opinion as to how this is done but I am after fact not opinion (are you paying attention here Geoff?) so please, facts only from those who know for certain.

Question; when a transducer zero is taken where is it stored (as a digital number presumably)? Is it in the Haemomed pod (and hence transferred when this is moved from monitor to monitor) or is it stored in the main monitor itself (as I suspect) and hence not transferred when the patient is moved?

Yes, the answer may seem obvious from the question itself but I need a level of certainty based on fact rather than supposition or logic (still listening Geoff?)

Thanks all, Dave

It is a while since I had a dealing with these but my understanding was that the pod stored everything so it could be transferred from one monitor to the next which effectively only acted as a dumb display.
But as the grey cells are not what they were supposed to be this is just a recollection not a fact gained from a first hand source.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Without wishing to muddy the waters too much ... we need to be clear which "zero" we are talking about. The "mechanical zero" of the transducer - or the "zero" we get (take) when resetting the complete fluid system before taking an actual pressure measurement. Presumably it is the first "zero" that we are discussing here.

No chance of this value being held on the transducer itself, I suppose (followed by an element of "handshaking" between the transducer and any pod it is swapped into)? think

As already mentioned, the base monitor is just that:- more or less a "dumb" monitor to display whatever is presented to it by the pod(s).

On the other hand (and forgive me for having the audacity to wonder, Dave) ... are we sure that the transducer "zero" is (or needs to be) stored at all? If you swap them about, would not the pod electronics "auto zero" the transducer each time a different one is encountered? At the end of the day, we are talking about a baseline (voltage) level - or a null reading on a bridge circuit - are we not?
