Does anyone know of the NHS have a specification for vacuum cleaners for use in clinical areas.
Clearly common sense dictates that the vacuum cleaner should have HEPA filtration (0.3 micron filter or better) to prevent spraying pathogens out of the exhaust when using it.
Since, when cleaning out dust and dirt from medical equipment, an anti-static cleaner would be used and most of these are the 'toner' type, which have HEPA filters as standard maybe everyone is using a safe and suitable tool?
It is impossible to avoid using a vacuum cleaner for permanently installed equipment, such as CT scanners and interventional radiography units. Since these are high risk areas for patients, often undergoing invasive procedures the need for cleanliness is essential.
