Welcome to the forum, Julie. smile

So ... you're really looking for volunteers, then. think

"They" have decided to go for a new database, but haven't thought through how to implement it ... and haven't budgeted the exercise properly, anyway. Have I got that right? Oh well, no doubt "lessons shall be learned".

It sounds to me like "the management" there need to "get a grip"!

OK, here's the plan:- start saving up. Meanwhile, best crack on with Excel (whilst re-visiting the decision to adopt F2 - is it really suited to your needs? - and questions like that).

OK (2):- how many "assets" ... and is your .xls spreadsheet reasonably reliable? And, what type of database files does F2 use?

In case anyone is wondering if I have now totally lost the plot, the above post was made in response to one made by a new member of the forum earlier today.

Although that post (which sought help about how to implement data migration into F2) has now been deleted, I have chosen to allow my reply to stand so that the person asking for help may refer to it if need be!

Meanwhile, does anyone (else) have any information regarding the file structures used by F2 ... or (better still) have any clues to offer about how to import "legacy" data into that system?

... that is all. smile

I agree with RoJo comments on f2, we are looking to leave f2 after a few short years. support is difficult to obtain, you have to have a SQL server expert to set up reports, the stores and training sections don't provide us with our requirements and there are 'hidden' buttons which stop certain processes occurring unless you know about them. And other trusts provided their ideas/updates - - hasn't happened, even though we are aware of certain trusts putting a lot of individual time and effort into improving the system. Suggest you look at E-quip.

Yes, it seems that every few years (a decade or so) a decent biomed system comes along - e-Quip, E-MAT etc.

Trouble is that once such systems become popular, the trend seems to be that they get bought up by Big Company Ltd. (and, presumably, the original developers become wealthy enough to retire) - usually to the detriment of the true quality (not to mention price) of the system itself.

The other Big Issue here (the Elephant in the Room, if you like) is that it is not exactly unknown for the Biomeds to have an unsuitable system dumped (forced) upon them by the Management. So, yet another reason why the Biomed Chief needs to be, shall we say, a little "assertive". smile
