It would make sense if it was a Buddhist curse. But then, it wouldn't make sense for Buddhists to curse... So a Buddhist paradox?

Aha! We've drawn you out! Or should that be "in"?

Not sure I could call it favorite but most watched for me used to be The Guns of Navarone which I watched endlessly as a kid. I lost count after 11 viewings but I suspect that Das Boot may have now overtaken it. Brilliant film, even if originally a made for TV mini series. Honorable mentions also go to Dirty Harry, Scarface, the Godfather series and anything with Errol Flynn in it (especially on a Sunday afternoon)!!

I am aware of "Das Boot", but have never seen either the film or the TV episodes. However ... I do have a paperback translation of Lothar-Günther Buchheim's famous 1973 novel right here! Even though it is apparently an abridged version of J. Maxwell Brownjohn's* translation, the book (entitled, believe it or not, "The Boat") still weighs in at 480 pages. I hope to get around to reading it one of these days. But do you also remember the ska records of "Guns of Navarone" by the Skatalites (the best-selling ska single of all time, apparently) - and "Al Capone" (Scarface, of course) by Prince Buster? * I kid ye not, BTW.

I am told there are now various versions of "Das Boot" available in video:- 1) 1981 unreleased version (209 minutes) 2) 1981 original theatrical cut (150 minutes) 3) 1984, 1988 BBC mini series (300 minutes) 4) 1997 "Director's Cut" (208 minutes) 5) 2004 "The Original Uncut Version"* (293 minutes) All of which just serves to remind us how much certain "arty types" like to fiddle about with original material. And why people often say things like:- "it was OK, but not as good as the book"! * Mini series minus episode-opening flashback scenes

Meanwhile, "A Few Good Men" (1992) was pretty good*; and I've recently learned that it was based on actual events - which in many ways were "stranger than fiction" in themselves. * Especially Jack Nicholson as Colonel Jessup.

Hello
I enjoyed watching Lone Survivor (on channel Four a couple of weeks ago) based on a true story from the war in Afghanistan.
Mind you U-571 a film about an Enigma Coding Machine being recovered from a sinking U Boat by Americans was based on the true story of a British operation.

1) Operation Red Wings 2) Operation Primrose I'll leave those who may be interested to look them up for themselves! That's one of the great things about the internet - the truth is usually out there if you are prepared to dig a little (and not even too deeply in these two cases).

Watching one right now, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, brilliant! A great western, comedic and tragic all at the same time. Love it. "Who are those guys" and many other quotable lines....

Yes; it's a good one. And just like Che* later on, they met their end in Bolivia. * Who also had a fair number of useful quotes.
