I believe you may have answered your own question there, Hilary.

Why not revert to using whichever battery the T-34 is supplied with ... and then take things from there. That is, stick to Alkaline (for the time being, at least).

Also ... do you know how long your batteries usually last? And (or) why your batteries don't last? Who uses them? Can you be sure that users don't "misuse" them?

Have you checked out the excellent information previously linked to by Robert?

More technical information on batteries here.

Meanwhile (if it were me) I think I would experiment with rechargeable PP-3's from *Tesco's. smile

Lastly, I have seen (on eBay) 8.4 V 880 mAh Lithium PP-3's with a mini-USB socket (that is, they can be recharged from a USB connector); something else to consider, perhaps.

* Other local vendors (and on-line suppliers) are available.

Please remember you are using batteries with medical devices, which must meet the medical device regulations. Fitting a battery not specified or recommended by the manufacturer would be considered a modification of the device and therefore all liability for the CE marking would fall onto the shoulders of the person making the modification! Good luck with that one if things go wrong!

Any battery purchased must be traceable back to the manufacturer so buying from non-ISO certified companies who can't provide such traceability is out off the question.

CME only ever said that 6LR61 cells should be used with T-34. The 6LP3 type batteries were found to give less infusions than the 6LR61. Lithium could be a route to go down, but as mentioned previously, they are expensive initially.

Rechargeable batteries were a no-no as the performance drops off quite quickly.

Is this company ISO 9001 registered and can provide full traceability of the items it sells? I doubt it, which is why it can undercut places like CPC/Farnell. At that price they may even be fake!

Remember you work with medical devices and have a duty of care in what you do, which also extends to the companies you do business with.

Mike,
Totally agree with what you say but have a look at parent company website Granada Batteries. Having worked with CPC/Farnell as a supplier in the past and RS as one product manager said to me when I proposed 100% mark up the reply came back " I would not get out of bed for less than 400%" you have to start questioning where do i get these product from

It would be worth approaching them, as I know some testing with Lithium vs other cells was carried out by their tech dept.

[Linked Image] (slightly)

If I was still working in "the bush" (I wish) I would get hold of a couple of T-34s and run a few tests using the cheapest PP-3 batteries I could find in the souk ... however, here in over-regulated (rip-off) Britain we all have to toe the line (apparently). frown

Meanwhile ... I seem to recall that the T-34 was made by CME in Israel (or rather, by a sub-contractor* to CME). Is this still the case? And, if so, who do we ask (regarding which batteries are "supported")?

* Whose name I know, but won't reveal.

I believe that BD now owns the parent CME company, as well as the British arm. I would say the first port of call will be the CME Helpdesk in Blackpool.
