In modern PACS systems, LCD screens of 3Mp resolution or better is the norm, producing a resolution much better than could ever have been achieved in CRT (price for price). Engineer led QA is takes place every 3 months, mainly to check luminescence, and to ensure that pairs of screens are matched to ensure that the Radiologist has identical viewing conditions on both of his viewing screens. Further, pairs of screens are matched at manufacture to further increase true image accuracy.
The individual Radiologist has the ability to set himself "default display protocols" DDPs for short, that allows him to "map" his personal image viewing preferences for each body part, and these are automatically applied as he selects each study to report. This includes all modality types.
Feedback from Radiologists indicates that image viewing quality and therefore reporting rates are greatly improved. Radiographers are responsible for QAing their own images (for image capture quality, not PACS), for which they are provided with a PACS technician workstation
PACS rocks! Not.
