My grammatical skills are not up to the standards of you lot so I won't even try!

As far as the steering group is concerned,
the steering group forum is intented to be used to decide what to do for next years educational symposium, and developing inter-departmental (regional & national) communication.

When we've come up with some ideas we will put them in the main forum area for dicussion. If you are interested in joining the steering group it will mean coming to meetings probably 3 times a year, and giving up some of your time to develop working policies for submission as downloads, possibly benchmarking, educational articles etc.etc.

If you are interested give me a call on 01279 827533.

As far as PFI is concerned, we are not going to stop it, so we need to ensure that our departments are valued enough that if our trust goes down that road we stay as part of the Trust.

If you have any new PFIs occurring in your area, there is nothing to stop you approaching the Trust involved and offering Service Level Agreements for their equipment management.

Many community Hospitals are looking for Equipment Management - Start running your department in a business like fashion and you will raise your profile, income generate, and become a NOTICEABLE asset for the Trust. (I don't see many PFI Service providers income generating - other than for themselves)

My brethren, my patriotic scholars, could we not create a new steering group and steer our plague of scavenging locust's into a pit full of scarabs. Jest ye not my Democritus sodalities for if we accept them as our masters we must be prepared for the NHS version of “Independence Day”. mad

WITH REGARD TO JOHNS COMMENT ON PFI.
CAN HE CLARIFY FOR THOSE CLOSE TO HIS
TRUST.
IS HE GOING TO START PUTTING IN BIDS TO DO THE WORK OF TRUSTS WHO ALREADY HAVE AN EBME IF THEY (THE TRUST) ADVERTISE FOR EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT.
AND ALSO WHERE DO THE STAFF COME FROM. UNLESS YOUVE GOT FREE TIME ON YOUR HANDS ALREADY I THINK YOU WILL FIND COMPETENT TECHS DONT GROW ON TREES
NOT UP NORTH THEY DONT ANYHOW AND JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF LONG STANDING VACANCIES DOWN SOUTH I THINK THE SAME APPLIES THERE.

Excellent contribution Karl my dear rum punch drinking Co-functional professional , neither my grand father, Louis Lyniswern or my famous father, Louis Lyniswern II could have put it better.

Dreadfully sorry to confuse you Mark old bean, where shall I begin, oh yes, once upon a time there was this very handsome EBME engineer, he didn't have much in the way of creature comforts but he was a very hard worker, devoted to getting his daily chores completed. Over the other side of the hill was Prince EBME tech, now prince EBME tech lived in an exclusive crystal glass castle type workshop and was looked upon by his peers as a right old “mad for it” jewel in the crown, and his plush surroundings were worthy of all the other departments in his castle. Poor handsome EBME decided to poll other fellow (compatriot, co-workers, fellow functional etc) from around the land to find what standards their surroundings, (workshop kennel, etc.) met. The replies where exceptional my dear Mark full of “resigned to the fact”. Sarcasm, if not slightly sympathetic to the handsome princes cause.
One eminent chap, the good Dr. Carnoustie didn't even have an AGSS facility. As it turns out most EBME departments are usually sited as far away as is geographically possible from the hub of our trusts, usually in portacabins, old power stations, old basements, buildings due for demolition etc. Reasons stem from “lack of funds” to plain old “don't want you here” . so on and so on…. Did they live happily ever after…I think not. Well mark, hope this has cleared the matter up for you…. Would still like to hear views from Hope hospital though, especially as our good comrade John has brought to us the reality of PFI or KPO (Krout parasite organisation) eventually taking over our empire. P.S. my dear mister mercury man, ha, if that is your real name,,, I think not !!! one day you might be out and about, unable to get back in because a big Frankfurter eating 2 Meter high bouncer will be have invaded your kennel…..

Hello Karl
We have circled an area within 30 miles drive of our dept. We contacted all the trusts withing that radius telling them the service we provide.
None of them were PFI, One of them already had a service level agreement with MEMS at Southend. We put in our offer and now carry out that service. Once agreed we took on extra staff (and trained them) to cope with the extra workload.

I see nothing wrong in competition (or combining forces), it should improve service and keeps people on their toes.

If we had the opportunity to compete against a private sector service bid, we would.

Dearest John, I know the eniment and diplomatic Mr. Mundy will have his own questions, but could you please enlighten us:-

confused What level of work do you cover i.e. emergency:-ventilators, anesthetic workstations, monitoring etc?

confused I take it you provide PPM to bulk items i.e. flow meters, regs, pumps d-fibs etc. what is your maintenance period ?

confused How long did it take to train your staff to a “competent level” and what standard do you have them adhere to ?

confused Do you have maintenance contracts, if so, for what items?

confused How many “computer Hours”(recorded work time) are your techs expected to complete in a 37 hour working week?

oh! so many questions to ask, so little time,...Is you department happy ?? smile

Please wait for Karls response before answering me wink
