As every techie must know, xBase is a term that it is used to refer to the dBASE programming language and its derivatives FoxPro and Clipper. Originally it was BASIC-like, but most recent (bloated) evolutions, like Visual FoxPro, have all the latest object-oriented etc. knobs and whistles. In fact, there is nothing you can't do with Visual FoxPro.

I too have had a go with Perl. It is very clever. As a personal note, I enjoy finding out about the origins of stuff, and the guy(s) behind it (...and we must record here that, for better or worse, they are usually guys, not gals). And Larry Wall is weirder than most!

Are you using Linux to run the website, then, Huw? If so, more power to your elbow....

Yes, I Googled it (after) replying to you. I only used dBase from version 5.5 onwards - found it wonderfully easy to use and was building some pretty peowerfull aps in a very short space of time...

Good day my Ostentatious colleagues , Louis has purchased one of those nice new Siemens laptops that comes complete with the Knoppix 4.0 DVD’s. Louis only wants to use the system for Multimedia & absolutely nothing else. So to the question, Is there a really stripped down version of Linux out there that will support a media player?
