With the amount of Olympus equipment in the NHS, Shouldn't the NHS be negotiating directly with Olympus in Japan and cut out the middle man? eek The NHS is a big enough buyer to do this.

After watching the film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" countless times (Sat pm, bank hols etc) I have picked up the phrase of "How to turn my aircraft carrier into the wind" in Japanese.

I am available to impart this knowledge to the NHS for a small consultancy fee laugh

Tony's grasp of Japanese, Daves experience of Aircraft carriers, my forward thinking, what a wealth of experience we all have.
:p
There must be a way to steer that carrier in a more cost effective way. :p

I believe its already been done but was sunk by the consultants. laugh
Seriously - There is a group looking into prices of service and capital purchases - watch this space. Mainlan European Olympus suppliers are said to cheaper than the UK agent - Keymed. I don't think anyone can stop us buying over the channel but service support may then be lacking and logistically difficult. frown

The only Japanese word I know that Kemed/Olympus seem to understand is Pentax. smilewink

On a serious note, PaSA (NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency) are trying to break the KeyMed monopoly. They have released a powerpoint presentation (I have copy, Huw it is on the nww website, not sure if it is on the www so not sure about copyright)regarding tendering for flexible endoscopes.

I won't say any more for fear of being sue for libel but the slides speak for themselves. I can email to anyone who wants it or it is available on the PASA NHS Net site (and maybe the WWW site)
