We have had a similar reaction from some staff, but I always reply with, What if they were a patient in a wheelchair in a corridor with an external pacemaker and IV pump with a high risk drug being infused would they be happy with me using a mobilephone along side them? This usually wins the argument.
We also placed no mobile labels on all our pumps as patients with IV's were using them in the patient smoking areas.
