I received my voting form a week ago from Amicus...but the whole thing really sent me thinking. The AFC is not going to be decided by just by the people who are in the unions involved, but those who actually bother to vote. The TGWU make a big noise on their publicity on one of the hospital notice boards saying over 70% voted yes for AFC.It is only on close examination that the number that actually bothered to vote was just 30 odd % of the union. It all smacks of block votes...and everything being carried by the minority
What bothers me is the fact that within the NHS, there are far more people who do not belong to unions, yet their future is being definitely decided by the "few".So the ordinary worker who is not a member of a union is being penalised by this very fact.....and his or her rights in deciding and having a say in their future are really being withheld one could even say illegally....human rights etc etc.
Surely the way the whole vote on AFC should be carried out is on the basis of each person being balloted using their payroll number as the unique identifier for the individual...and EVERYBODY getting a chance for yea or nay.
Well that should have stired it up.......right pass the beer and sandwidges
