We carry out Formal Training with practical and written tests where the nurses are issued certificates of competency.
When it comes to Ad Hoc training on the ward where we are advising on the use of a device, we have found some nurses then considering themselves trained by EBME. (When questioned by our internal auditors)
The implication is that some nurses may decide not to attend the official training courses because they think they are already trained.
How do other EBME depts get around this problem?
Would you say "Don't use it until you've had the official training on that device" or would that compromise the running of the trust because too few nurses are trained on the devices they use.
