I have had a go at the CLPU module accessed through the South Yorkshire HA website.
At the end there was no useful information about how to proceed to the City and Guilds part(s) and so far it doesn't look like there is an infrastucture to support learners at this hospital at least.
One of the people I contacted who is invetsigating it for me said that the cost would be about £60 per person doing the C&G course but there was nothing about who would be paying it; the hospital or the learner.
There are no references that I could see that have been used to back up particular points of view within the module. There are statements about best practice, one example is doing hourly observations on all infusions, but I am not aware of the origin of some of the statements.
We have a new learning management system in use in this hospital that (when it is working) could be used to access elearning like this but it doesn't seem to be possible to link directly to the CLPU stuff as a separate registration and login is required.
Are there any plans to make the module(s) available for import into hospital elearning environments to make co-ordination with the C&G parts easier to achieve?
I haven't seen anything about whether a refresher would be needed once someone has achieved the certificate from C&G and if so at what frequency. I am currently trying to achieve a two year refresher rate (failing miserably in the main) driven by the CNST requirements I believe.
I love the idea of a national training system that is transferrable.
I love the idea of elearning modules but I have come across a fair number of nursing staff who are either uninterested in using computers for learning or have discovered that the computer systems just aren't up to it.
