Absolutely correct Adonis. Oxygen is a drug which should not be given to those who don't need it. In fact it may have a detrimental affect on certain patients, such as those who retain CO2.
I still think that twins are a better bet. Murphys law states that when a twin is required for a particular patient, there will be single flowmeter at the bedhead. The result is that the nurse then has to find a twin, remove it from the wall (now she's really annoyed) and that's where unnecceary breakages comes in.
Also some hospitals share an oxygen outlet between two beds. Singles are fine for one patient, but Murpheys Law comes in again and states that the second patient needs oxygen - back to really annoyed nurse!
