Do you have always a standby equipment ready for such a situation?
Good question, and if yes? what sort of equipment? We cover a 24/7 here. We always ensure there are a few spare vents, HF machines, and all critical areas have backup portable bedside monitoring! This usually covers most cases till the waking hours! However we had a number of power outages a few weeks ago that caused mayhem with around 50% of the monitors (popped fuses etc.) so all hands on deck for that one! I personally think 24/7 cover is a basic requirement and an entitlement to the poor patient who has spent his lifetime paying his NHI stamp!
