Those medical devices can't do it because they're not programmed to do it! You're right in intimating that run-of-the-mill medical stuff is pretty basic when it comes to how "smart" it is. Something to do with getting it approved by the FDA in the first place, I should imagine.
As I've mentioned
before (and not entirely tongue-in-cheek), probably the only way we're ever going to see such functionality across the board is by bolting on an add-on!
