aka "waste of space" ... nice careers, though, for those lucky enough to get on the gravy train). Do they make a difference (as far as biomed is concerned)? I don't think they do, but would be happy to be proved wrong on that one.
But most (if not all) of those "faith based" or charity hospitals have nothing to do with WHO. They are, in fact (and as Roman has already indicated) struggling to survive on a daily basis, doing good deeds where the government seems unable (unwilling, whatever ... the end result is the same) to serve its own people. So, what else is new?
But be sure there are nice hospitals in Kampala, in case you were concerned about where those fat government guys receive their
own healthcare (plus in London, of course).
Soutien Technique Sans Frontières? ... or the Biomed Buddies? Whatever it takes! For shorthand, I refer to my "venture" as BSG (for Biomed Services Group).
And you're more than welcome to make a contribution, Neil, in any way you can (or feel comfortable with). Do you fancy a trip to Uganda?
Meanwhile, if any tech wishes to volunteer (that is, pay his own expenses ... or gain funding from his hospital, or wherever) for field trips to East Africa (or any of the other places in need - and there are many), let him come right out and say so here (when I say
his it can, of course, also mean
hers). If overseas trips are out of the question, there are charity groups right here in the UK who could do with a hand in checking out, repairing, refurbing, and generally preparing kit (donated medical equipment) ready for shipment "out there".
Myself, I need help. I need sponsorship. I need suppliers to donate to the cause. And I need funding.
