Yes, I guess we have all encountered people like that. One wonders how they get a foot in the door in the first place.
One place I know (actually, more than one) has a whole
array of framed certificates adorning one side of the corridor as you approach the workshop. And yet they still need to call upon agency staff to get the work done!
To my way of thinking, any course which doesn't hold the prospect of failure isn't worth the effort of attending!
The trouble is, in the UK these days, the political culture dictates that no one "fails" at anything they attempt, even (or should that be
especially) when they are obviously, and grossly, unsuited.
Those striving to achieve the highest standards are discouraged. We have signed up to the socialist
ideal that everyone (and everything) is dumbed down to the same level of mediocrity. Elitism is a dirty word (oh no, we can't be having any of
that)!
As long as we
try (no matter how half-heartedly), that's "OK". It is, in a word:-
pathetic. And yet another example I cite that this country has lost the plot (but this is not a
recent development, regrettably).
