I'll rise to the bait, Geoff.

Creating things cost money. Creating really great things cost a lot of money. Therefore, really great things are sold at a higher price.

Software is a product, which requires as much effort as hardware to produce, and that effort costs money. Manufacturers compensate for this cost by charging money for the base software as well as for software options. By unlawfully enabling such options one would be stealing, and that is as bad as stealing a piece of hardware kit.

If you believe the price is unreasonable (ie. "gouging" as you imply), surely there are many other (albeit mediocre) alternatives, sold at a much lower cost? After all, isn't that the best thing about a free market economy?

As for me, I'd rather buy a Ford than steal a Ferrari.
