The silent killer
You can't see it, taste it or smell it but CO can kill without warning within a few hours and in extreme cases in minutes.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas which can be emitted from any heating or cooking appliance, petrol generator, or vehicle engine or indeed any appliance powered by combustible fuel e.g. gas (mains or bottled), solid fuel (coal, wood, etc) petrol, oil, paraffin. CO is formed when a combustible fuel doesn’t burn properly.
Those who survive often suffer long term ill health.Symptoms of CO poisoning can include tiredness, drowsiness, headaches, giddiness, nausea, vomiting, pains in the chest, breathlessness, stomach pains, erratic behaviour and visual problems. These symptoms can mimic many common ailments and may easily be confused with flu, or simple tiredness, or even depression.
CO Awareness is a new charity which supports victims, their families and friends poisoned by this silent killer. The charity will be holding it's first meetings at on 14th June at Halton Lea library Runcorn Cheshire. Also on 21st June Kingsway library Widnes, Cheshire.
