I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT ALL ULTRASOUND SCANNERS ABOVE 5 YEARS CAN NO LONGER BE USED FOR ANTENATAL WORK AND NEED TO BE SCRAPPED. IS THIS TRUE? AND IS ANYBODY ELSE SCRAPPING WORKING MACHINES BECAUSE THEY ARE FIVE YEARS OLD? HOW LONG DO YOU KEEP YOUR SCANNERS FOR? OR HOW OLD ARE YOUR EXISTING ONES . NO RUDE COMMENTS PLEASE.
NEED URGENT HELP.

We've got scanners more than five years old - and haven't heard anything like this ! All of our units are either fully covered by N.W.Medical Physics Ultrasound or in partnership with the manufacturer. These include Hewlett Packard (who are not usually behind the door when it comes to passing on bad news about obsolete equipment !) Where did this come from ? ? ?
Today is the day you worried about yesterday - and all is well !

We also have ultasound scanners more than 5 years old. I have'nt heard anything like that, but I did see something in the NHS Executive guidance on capital equipment that said replacement of electro-medical equipment should be 7 to 10 years. (It was more detailed than that, but I can't remember what documentation it was in)
