We have four fairly new Diametetrics Neo-Trend Neonatal blood gas/pH monitors, which we cannot use because the disposables are not available.
Initially marketed by Agilent, then Philips.
As far as I am aware.
Many other neonatal units have this problem; Does anyone know if there is any hope of production/supply recommencing? Is confused the parent company solvent?

We are in the same position. We sought the advice of our legal advisors who basically said there was nothing we can do. We could sue but we would not guaranteed a successful outcome, and if we did we probably still wouldn't be financially compensated.

Basically we were stuffed as our units were less than a year old when Diametrics went down the pan. My understanding is that the parent company pulled funding because of the incidents that occurred which resulted in two MHRA alerts, they just weren't prepared to keep the product going as potential future claims were high risk. So future support is unlikely.

Hi John,
We are in the same position as are many units who went down this road. I think the cost of catheters contributed to lower use than the company projected as well as the problems Bioman highlighted. Switching company identity several times in a short time frame did not help the situation.
The main question is now do we store these items in the vague hope some one will resurrect the technology? There was communication from Diametrics as they went under but nothing from anyone since. No indication that any other company saw financial or profile gain in this field unless some one out there knows better????????
I think even if it is revived it will have to be in a totally different incarnation and the current kit will be incompatible. Who else has an opinion on this keep it or bin it scenario?

The letter we got mentioned something about the American backers no longer funding research in this product line hence why it folded etc

We still have several boxes of disposables left from when we purchased the last remaining stock from Diametrics on their last day of trading and these are not due to expire until January 2006.

Usage has virtually ceased though which may be due to the lack of a company to claim from in event of another incident.

Unfortunately the future of the technology doesn't look too bright. There is a copy of the 5th May 2005 annual report from DIAMETRICS MEDICAL INC available on the net at the following address:-

Reading down the first couple of paragraphs from the 'OVERVIEW' heading is probably of greatest interest.
