I've been a medical equipment trainer for about 3 years and I find that the Baxter colleague is one of the best pumps on the market, unfortunately, it requires competent training. The pump cam be set up for whatever parameters you want. Baxter should get thier act together and teach how to use the pump efficiently.... the sets being less than £1 a set (i think) most hospitals should look at this pump as a pump of the future. Most of the other are pretty mediocre to say the least.

Now it has been on the market a good few years, the version 7 pump is a good pump. These versions are reliable, and have less reported breakdowns than much of their competition. Most of our breakdowns are related to being dropped, or missuse - not genuine failures. When comparing spare parts spend and breakdown rates we spend more on other infusion pumps than we do on the New Version 7 Colleague. I recently had a few 3 Channels (6 I think) which have been in use for about 3 month with no reported problems. The case build quality is good, and as Huw Evans (our nurse trainer) said, if the users are trained we don't get any problems. smile

The New Colleague has gone through some major changes and is well worth a look if you are tendering (Especially with regard to life costs).

Dear John,

Very interesting! - This Version 7 Colleague? Could you give us all some more details about this wonder pump! Do you have an informant in Baxter's R & D department or something? rolleyes

If they haven't got it yet, can you send them a copy?

I have just checked with Baxter Service Centre and, to their knowledge, there is not a Version 7 pump. confused

The most common SOFTWARE, I believe, is Version 4.02.00. or there abouts. But this is not the latest.

Version 5 Guardian Software is, I am told, now available, which has some extremely good features. I think it is well worth further info being obtained from your area rep.

Ian.
