We don`t pay for our parking but just try and find a space when you have been out at any time.

What is a staff carpark????? frown
We are not allowed to have cars except for exceptional circumstances ie. disability, nor at my last place, both in London.
It is public transport or nothing. It may be more readily available in the capital but it is not cheap.
They do have special schemes to loan you money to buy a bike...and ride in London traffic? Casualties would be full of NHS staff laugh .

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Hi Robert

Have they appointed a replacement for my old mate Tim, I notice they have advertised for his replacement recently. How is retirement suiting Mr Mossman?

My (now-ex) hospital charged £350 p.a. to anyone lucky enough to get a parking permit. The permit was issued on a points scheme, so those of us within ten miles of the place, without kids, dependants or disabilities genereally would not be issued a permit.

This was a new build "flagship" hospital, opened last year, nowhere near the city centre, and build on open land. There was no multi-storey carpark, despite the fact that parking was one of the biggest issues with the relocation from the city, because accoring to The Money Men, this would "spoil the look of the surrounding land". The fact that the hospital itself is a hideous two story monstrosity built on the site of a former mine obviously wasn't taken into account rolleyes

We pay £150 p.a. and are told that the profit goes to supplement "services and patient care"

Both hospital sites are very open plan and the excuse of no space to use/build on doesn't carry any weight.

What I do find baffeling though is that part of my contract of employment states that as well as having " a current clean driving licence" you must also have access to a car.

Surely then this is a necessary feature of employment so I should be able to claim back from my employer the car parking charges as a monthly expense.

Because we have to travel between sites surely we should be able to claim this back. eek

Another point to the people whose employer actively encourages other forms of transport to work.
Do they expect you to walk in, cycle, wait for public transport if you are on-call and called out at 2am in the morning.

I wonder what their response would be if you showed up 3 1/2 hours later to an emergency call if you said you'd walked the 7 miles into work.

Leave the car at home, great idea unfortunately we are required to use our cars to attend jobs in the community but still have to fork out £36 per month to park.

They don`t know they are born.

Can somebody please explain to me why some trusts charge for parking while others dont? I thought we all worked for the same company.

Dear Bobbyp

When Trusts were formed each became responsible for it's own budget rather than be guided by region on how to spend money. This resulted in income generation to top up funds and departments cross charging each other to increase local budgets. I guess introducing parking charges is a way of generating income. Generating additional income has become more important as budget deficet can reduce your star rating. Our over spend last year cost us a three star rating meaning we are currently a 2. Hope this helps.
