Can anyone recommend a company for purchasing/servicing video & rigid scopes??
We currently have Keymed which are very good.
If we change we need a company which can offer the same quality at a more reasonable cost.

At Colchester we have been using a company called Expanded Optics for all rigid repairs for about the last 3 years at a set cost of £185 per scope. As all scopes come through E.B.M.E. we are able to monitor through our data base, scope movement. To date not only have we saved in excess of £80,000 p.a. on scope repairs we have maintained (if not bettered) the quality of repair and service. Not only are they a repair base, but a manufacturing one as well - a new Lap from them will cost in the region of £1000 this includes autoclavable case and first repair(user fault) F.O.C. their number is
0181 4412283 (Bev Hart or Bob Hollingsworth)
If you need any further information you can contact me on 01206 742754.

We agree with our colleague Steven - Epanded Optics really do offer a comparable service to Keymed - and with considerable cost savings - and they're willing to help at no charge!

We've just had a quote for £5200 to repair a GIS-Q10 gastroscope from Keymed. The scope is obsolete but a new one is £16843+VAT (incl 10% discount), I don't want to pay for the repair because the scope is so old.

Can anyone advise on a Flexible scope supplier?

Expanded Optics sent me the information about the rigid scope repair service they offer at £185 - but if it's a fixed price, why do they say in the leaflet that they send you a quote and won't start the repair until you've aproved it ? ?
If you know its £185, why do you need a quote ?
I get the very strong feeling that I'm missing something here.

Its a FLEXIBLEscope not a rigid scope. Expanded optics don't do flexible scopes.

We are currently using M.D.S. at Southend for most of our non warranty flexible repairs. To date they have offered a pretty good turn-around at reasonable price, and can offer a loan scope facility. As I am one of those sad cases that work at home of an evening, I haven't got their number here, if you want to explore this further, please call me at work on 01206 742754

Thanks for the info. I got the nmber for MDS [01702 299003] and they will be giving us a quote against Keymed.
I also managed (through MDS) to find alternative suppliers for flexible and video scopes.
Pentax medical 01753 798170 and
Endoscopy UK Ltd 01594 844770
I spoke to Colin Walker at Frenchay Hospital,
He has a lot of good advice about scopes and I am hoping he will post some of it here.
His number is 01179 753847

Just seen your bulletin, have you considered changing from Olympus to another flexi scope supplier?

As working for as a consultant for an independent and unbiased hospital equipping company we have just advised a large Trust to purchase the following including servicing and maintenance

We have just switched flexi scope suppliers from Olympus Keymed to Fuginon who are supported by Endoscopic UK tel no 01594 844770 contact Ray Puttock.
The decision to change was both clinically driven by the superior image quality and price advantage that included the long term servicing.

For rigid systems we plumped for Sigmacon UK tel 0208 9509501 contact David Campbell, again cheaper to buy, service and maintain whilst being the preferred clinically.
