A new post has been created at Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for:

Medical Devices Coordinator
Salary: Up to £28,070 for an exceptional candidate dependent upon qualifications, skills and knowledge

The successful applicant will lead the Trust programme on Medical Devices Management under the supervision of the Risk Management Advisor. This is part of the programme of quality initiatives that the Trust is investing in. This very important role forms part of the CNST agenda, the Trust is presently at Level 1 CNST but has aspirations to progress to Level 3 as soon as is practically possible. There are opportunities to work with colleagues in the wider Trust as well as those in the risk management department.

A clinical background is not essential; however the successful applicant must be able to communicate with all grades of clinical staff about clinical issues particularly where the development of training on medical devices or guidance on procedure or policy is required.

Having gained substantial experience working in the NHS, you should posses a broad understanding of risk management in the NHS. It is essential you are articulate, credible and influential, and have excellent organisational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will be well educated, IT literate, with a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially MS Access and Word. The post holder may be responsible for managing junior members of the risk management team and developing themselves and their staff through the Trust joint review and development appraisal system.
We can offer you plenty of interest and challenge, opportunities to develop and supportive, committed colleagues to work with.

I am a graduate mendical engineer from the university of Bradford. I spent a year on industrial placement in Germany with a company called Aesculap working in the research and design division.

I am interested in the vacancy you posted but fear that due to my low level of experience I will not stand a chance against other applicants.

Can you please tell me who or where I can go to find more vacancies related to medical device design or coordination.

Look forward to reading a reply soon

See other postings about jobs and device design for more discussion. But it is simply not done in the NHS except in a few specialist departments.
As for medcial device co-ordinators/equipment managers you need a broad experience for these.
For many jobs it is best to bide your time as a service technician picking up knowledge and the branching out when you have gained sufficient experience in the field.
There is no quick fix for experience and knowlegde.
As for places to look - this web site, the IPEM green sheets, NHS jobs web site and NEw Scientist magazine/web site.
