50 years ago when there was only one TV channel (BBC) - it might have been a good way to pay. It annoys me every time I have to renew my TV Licence. mad (Pull up a soapbox) As far as i am concerned it is another type of tax. If I want the movie channels on Sky i can choose to pay extra. With modern technology we should be able to choose whether we want to pay or not. Should the TV Licence go?

Should the TV Licence go?
single choice

Have just voted,

Maybe the poll could be extended to ask, should the BBC start selling advert space so that the licence fee could be scrapped or should it be subscription?

With modern technology why not have the same system as Sky box office or Premplus if you want to watch enter your pin no.and get the bill at the end of the month via direct debit. That way ther will be no licence fee dodgers. No bank account no TV.....

How else can the cost of “analogue switch-off” and the introduction of full digital services be met, then? But if you really object to this traditional way of financing British public broadcasting, John, why not be like me – I haven’t owned a TV set for years. And believe me, Mate, you can live without it! smile

Tony, Thanks for spotting the deliberate spelling mistake (which i have now corrected) wink

Geoff, I can't live without it. I think its great if watched selectively.

What would we do without the drama of Casualty and Holby City. How else do we keep up to date? wink

Without Holby or Casualty we would not be able to see the latest equipment the manufacturers have to offer. Well before the reps get around to telling us about it. And they teach the nurses how to monitor patients in demo mode. eek
Bring back Tomorrow's World - I am still waiting for the monitor that can diagnose everything and send the info down a phone line so the treatment and drugs can be waiting for you when you arrive at the hospital. As for gyrocoptors for beating traffic jams on the way to work...... Well worth the fee just for the entertainment value.
Robert

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

Geoff, do you not get hassled weekly by the licencing authority. I went without a T.V. for nearly a year, but almost weekly there was a knock at the door and I was being questioned as to why I didn't have a T.V. licence. They couldn't understand (or believe) I didn't want a T.V. set.

I have to pay for two TV licences. One for my own place and one for the military accomodation that I live in. Plus my sky package and it soon adds up. I'm in favour of scrapping it.
