You should try using 4th and 5th now and again

Current car Citreon Xsara estate. Previous cars Peugot 405SRi, Lancia Beta coupe, Mazda Montrose (later renumbered 626), Mazda 323 h/back, Humber Sceptre Mk1.

There was a short piece on Radio 4 this morning about the type of car driven reflecting the personality of the driver. So perhaps we need to be careful what we say here. My own vehicle is cheap, old, more or less worn out, rarely used and a little rusty. But it is also very versatile and of outstanding utility! Sounds about right.

Just bought an MG midget ( round arches chrome bumpers) model any one any parts to sell? Thought I would go back to the old days of no servo, power steering or synchro on 1st gear.

... and no brakes!

Takes me back to the good old days fitting Janspeed straight through exhaust systems on Midgets!!

This is a one owner C4 Corvette, it cost me £6k, insured with Adrian Flux for £210 fully comp for 5k miles. Over the 800miles it averaged 29.4mpg. Its a doddle to tinker with, bits are reasonable and freely available, lots of forum advice and owners clubs.. Its a 5.7 smallblock V8 (Yanks call it the torque monster!) Chevy motor, 0-60 in 5secs dead.

All that apart, it very easy to live with and in fact I use it daily (need to extend the insurance range). The new generation Yank cars are every bit as fast as the old muscle cars, only this time they actually turn, stop and use fuel more like a European car..

just love the sound, at idle its like an F1 offshore powerboat! The Corvette is the great sports car secret.. People are still hung up on the old 'Yank gas guzzler thing'..
