Yeah, I "threatened" to do it some 19 months back, but here I am some 1,150 posts later (not
all of them trivial, I hope).
It seems that some sensitive souls don’t like the "banter". Fair enough. That’s their privilege. I have tried to suggest, coerce and cajole. I have deliberately acted as
agent provocateur, devil’s advocate and mentor, in an effort to promote debate and move things along. I addition, I have received many private messages, most of them carrying pleas for help, and have offered guidance to those guys wherever I could.
It seems that I’ve set some sort of record. 300 posts in a month. Big deal! People have asked me whether I’m on the payroll. The answer is no, not at all. The
real question is (or should be), what have I gained from all this? The answer is a short one. Nothing at all. So what point is there in carrying on? None.
So (like a few of the others who we no longer hear from now, more’s the pity) I’ll be leaving you all to get on with it now.
In these modern times, with so many other attractions (distractions), I believe that the site needs to re-invent itself (probably at least once a year) if it is to thrive. As I’ve said many times before, this forum is a great resource, and I sincerely hope that it doesn’t simply
wither on the vine. It needs to be prodded,
stimulated, now and then!
