Has anybody out there had any experience of problems relating to screens on Draeger Evita 4 ventilators? We've had quite a few screens that have become unstuck at the bottom & wonder if other people have experienced this.

Just to reiterate my question:
Is there anybody out there who has Draeger Evita 4 Ventilators?
If so, have you experienced any problems with the screens coming adrift?

Thanks rolleyes

Probably the users of these Evita 4 are using alcohol to clean them.

Hi Mr R J Ling,
We too have had the same problem, Draeger put it down to the use of alcoholic wipes. They recommend to use soapy water, although i am a little uncomfortable with this.

As far as I'm aware soap and water is generally Ok for routine cleaning on most pieces of equipment - so that surface deposits are removed and the device is considered "socially" clean.

Whether this is adequate for a ventilator in a high-care clinical environment under all circumstances i.e. with the possibility of being exposed to body fluids, infection and contageous diseases; I suppose you would have to take expert advice in those circumstances and use common sense.

As long as the ventilator is (IP) rated appropriately hence sealed against fluid ingress and chemically resistant to the cleaning substance used then whatever cleaning substance you use should not present a problem. If it's not then that's another issue.

If the problem is inadequate sealing and alcohol (or alcohol based) solutions can get into or under the screen to loosen it then isn't it reasonable to argue that soap and water could get inside the machine too?

Is the alcohol finding its way into the screen by capillary action? If so then water will do the same won't it, eventually, except that it will not evaporate as quickly as alcohol will it?

Has that company suggested what you should use if the ventilator screen becomes contaminated and may present a biohazard?
