I am currently thinking of emigrating to Canada and wondered if anyone out there has any advice to give.
I have worked in the NHS for over 15 years and wondered if my current qualifications would count or would I have to register or re-train??
Also has anyone worked in Canada in the Health or Private sector?
Your help will be appreciated.

there is no problem to accept your experiences and qualification. they expect you to have canadian experience in the first instance. For that, take voluntary work for couple of months to one year and start to build your canadian dreams. Few private companies do not bother about canadian expereince but they request you to do any cowboy jobs.

Here’s a little story. Back in 1988 I hurried back to London from Saudi Arabia to be interviewed for a “job of a life-time” that (would have) involved roaming the open spaces of Alberta in a V8 Chevy van servicing equipment at remote clinical outposts. The plan was to be in touch with base via radio (no satellite phones then). I would even have had a budget to hire any help required along the way (expected to be local Indians, rather than cowboys, apparently). Although I made sure that I passed the interview (ie, by saying “yes” to everything), in the end the whole thing fell through (timed-out, really) due to the need, in those days at least, to be able to demonstrate that no Canadian citizen was available to fill the post.

Again, I reckon the best approach is, assuming that you’re really keen, is to get yourself out there and bang on a few doors. That’s what I should have done (had I not been having so much fun at the time with biomed maintenance contracts in the mountains to the south of the Desert Kingdom). smile

I know a few Canadian guys that are registered to this site - although I don't know if their emails are still valid.

I'll pm them and let them know of this thread.

When do we leave, Tony? There'll be room in the A-Team van for the pair of us, Mate! smile
