Hi all
I have not read all the replies but the theme of this tread seems to be around labour managment systems. As an Estates department we use Backtraq to control operations and maintenance activities, while we use a system called EMAT for the control of medical devices. This software is extremely user friendly , PPM service sheets can be stored electronically on this system. Signatures can be added or not, its extremely flexible

Are we mere technicians not professional enough now then, Simon? How many decades of carrying out PM do you need to have done before “they” trust you, I wonder?

On the other hand, I have come across instances where PM had been “carried out” (well, signed off, at least) en mass from the comfort of the chief tech’s chair. If you want me to name names, you’ll need to wait until I’ve written my book!

A job title, or names on some register, doesn’t do much for me at all. What does impress, however, is integrity, honesty and a willingness to work (…and, yes, I am well aware that I am yesterday’s man. Proud to me called such, in fact)! smile

I totally agree with you Geoff and yes integrity, honesty and a willingness to work should be the foundation of any technician/engineer. Hopefully a register of some sort will sort out the workers from the w**kers. Paper trails seem to rule this red tape country these days and yes they do not trust us!!!

As I’ve mentioned before, for the life of me I just can’t see what difference being on a register (or not) makes. I’ve been in this game a long time, Simon, and believe me, a w**ker is a w**ker and always will be. People like that only perform when there are people like me on their backs, ready to get medieval with them as the need arises! But, unfortunately for all of us, that style of “hands-on” management is no long de rigour, is it (…especially in the NHS)? smile

Cheers Geoff,
Since installing the new software, I had forgotten to censor certain words.

Pity, I don't know that many bad words to censor wink

Well "work" obviously. I figure all EBME types with twenty years tenure should automatically be given retirement to a beach of their choice....

But, I digress...

Back on topic please.
