Goeff,
The Queens site , which we might emulate, had user information on it. If someone wanted to know about, or how to use, a device it was there in front of them when they needed it.
It might take time to maintain but how much time is wasted with No Fault Found testing.
Robert

Thanks for posting the link Huw - you beat me to it!
To answer Geoff "what is the point ?" - we have noticed an increase in work requests from external clients (who do pay for our service) as a direct result of our web-site. This more than off-sets the cost of our Demon account.
It also raises the awareness of all our departments and the services we provide - Good value for small outlay.

Hi Geoff

Good question, good point, correct and quite right too.

I.T. will obviously be involved, but I will have to keep it up-to-date, along with eveything else that I have to do.

It is meant to be a PR job, Estates do not always appear in the picture do they. So we have been given an opportunity to sell ourselves..

The Queens Medical site is www.qmc.nhs.uk

Thanks guys.

Jim

This is the page I was looking for.
Full of information and user guides.

Yes, Robert (and Brad), that QMC site is indeed an excellent piece of work (although it still looks like a lot of work to me)! So that's the standard you're aiming for, then, Jim! smile

Meanwhile, the thought occurs that there's a market there for someone enterprising to have a go at designing and implementing these biomed sites for those who don't yet have them, or perhaps those hospitals whose IT departments are already overworked (or whatever), and the biomeds are too busy fixing kit. How about it, then, Huw?

Thanks for all the positive comments regarding the "QMC" website. I am the person behind it!

We did merge to become Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in April 2006. This has meant a great deal of work & pulling in different directions. The website is still there, but it has not had the attention or the updates of recent that I would like of it.

It was initially setup as an intranet site to mark our departments presence so to speak. However I decided to expand it to promote the "safe use of equipment". This meant articles in the trust magazine (published on the website - product of the month), together with user information, advice on selecting products from our Library, quizzes, and competence statements etc. There are also intranet only areas for interactive training with virtual equipment. I have lots of ideas, but not much time for developing it further - with a new draft website sitting on my computer requiring further development. Perhaps, one day, when I can see the wood for the trees .......

So feel free to have a look at MESU, NUH & be inspired.

Currently I'm at issue 4 of an electronic newsletter distributed throughout the trust to promote the safe use of equipment - this wil be posted on the website when I get time to relaunch it.

Kind regards, Mark

Hi Geoff et al,

Well I will not claim that I am aiming for the quality of the MESU, NUH. But I am making a start and hopefully it will get better. Well done Mark, you have done well and given me a kick start and a few ideas too.

I have created a mere three page word document thus far with a few niceties, like pretty pictures. None of me yet guys so your VDU won't explode.

Huw how do I submit it for lads and girls to ridicule?

Thanks.

Jim
