Hi all,

I have a quantity (~150) 6' fluorescent lamps from lamp changes on UVA and UVB treatment machines for disposal. I understand these are now listed as "Hazardous waste" due to their mercury content.

Our supplier will take back any lamps we buy from them in the future but are (understandably) unwilling to take our existing stock of used lamps (which we did not purchase from them).

I've had a quick look on the web for firms doing fluorescent lamp recycling, and was wondering if any other departments have had good or bad experiences with disposing of these lamps. How are other departments dealing with this issue, given it also affects CFL's and ordinary fluorescents.

David,
I have found that most estates departments already have a system in place for recycling their old fluorescent tubes. There is actually some value in them! Have a word with your electricians.

My spelling is not bad. I am typing this on a Medigenic keyboard and I blame that for all my typos.

It looks like they are doing more now than they did then!
