I would like to know what other engineers are claiming for their oncall mileage rate. I have studied AFC which seems to be open to interpretation as always. It talks about returning to work for O/T and T in Lieu but not specifically on-call. We are being told PTR rate (taxable) Which will cover the cost of petrol if your vehicle is reasonably economical but not wear and tear. Official AA figures claim about 38p/mile from memory for running costs. Surely we cannot be expected to be out of pocket can we? Is PTR appropriate, Can anyone tell me if there is a bus service running at 3am? I would like to here your thoughts.
Hi Rob, We now get regular user allowance a 40p per mile plus £63 per month instead of 53p per mile and nothing. Check to see what the gods get as we get about £83.00 per month for 9 periods of on call and the senior management £70.00 per night on call Hmmm I wonder who comes out when called.???????
Any on-call travelling time should be being paid at time and a half in addition to working time and travelling expenses, which should somewhat compensate for the PT rate. Dave if the Senior management are taking the money and refusing to come out when called (without good reason) then it could be considered to be close to fraud, and with HR departments looking to cut costs..........

Paul I dont think you should have to be compensated. You should be paid for what you do at what ever rate has been agreed for the time that isn't yours. Your providing of a car for work is a seperate issue and you should not be out of pocket for doing so.
Hi Robert. We claim PTR for all training courses and such .For on call we can claim a higher amount ..I think 50pence/mile? I don't normally bother as i live quite close to work . We get a fixed rate for being on call approx £90 for the week and then min 2 hours at 1.5X if we are called in. This is for AFC rates .The guys who were on the old Whitley rate and changed to AFC still get a slightly better rate , but there is not much in it.
Ive been told that talks are taking place regarding the increasing costs of travel and the chances of increasing the current travel (mileage allowances) for on call etc by at least 10%. However the unofficial source who told me this also insinuated that in order to get this tabled at union head office the unions need to have been asked by members to table it with DOH.
