Two band 5 posts at West Cumberland Hospital now on the NHS jobs web site if anyone is interested in a move to the Lake District or West Cumbria Coast.

Dicky, i would apply but they wont consider me being thousands of miles away(Africa) and work permit not quick and easy to access, by the way whre is Cumbria i have been in middlebrogh, Newcastle and Hull , basically North england , but lads there have a difficult accest

Last time I was in Middlesbrough, I was saddened to find that it looked like an industrial waste-land. But they do have a nice hospital there! Cumbria is the beautiful far north-west of England, and is also home to some fine hospitals (as indeed is Gulu in Uganda)!

Regional accents remain a feature of the British Isles (I’m pleased to say) despite all the advances in mobility and communications (and at least it amuses the tourists)! But there again, the same can still be said of the Arab World, and Africa too, no doubt about it.

Geoff, our hospitals are not as fine as those in England, by the way have you visited Africa?or you are like the lads i talked to to come and visit and they were fearing saying we live with animals, there is war everywhere in Africa....?? Am surprised you already got to the Gulu independent hospital website, the internet has brought us together(Global world) Gulu independent hospital is expanding soon to Southern Sudan and the directors are based in London and Newyork all they are trying to do is provide better health care to Ugandans, but in Africa people can not afford health care and thats why life expectancy is too low.

Yes, roman, I did some work in Nigeria. That was 23 years ago now, but I imagine that conditions there are still much the same. Except that there was no internet then, of course. No mobile phones either!

I had a brief involvement many years ago too with the Kenana (Sugar Co.) Hospital in Southern Sudan. There was definitely a civil war going on then, Mate!

But personally, I would love to go back to Africa.

It looks you ve travelled alot and worked in many countries, thats great and Nigeria is a big country now the population is nearly 180 million, Uganda population is nearly 25million, but its HIV that has greatly reduced our population.

Yes, the need for health care just increases all the time. HIV-AIDS is the major problem, but many others remain (malaria, TB to name but two). Meanwhile, those "lucky" enough to live in the West just get fatter!

Personally, I still haven't given up on the idea of the "World Tour". I have talked before about "biomeding around the world". One final fling, then, maybe next year. I envisage travelling light with just a tool bag and a few things. Anyone want to join me? Or, more to the point, anyone want to sponsor the trip? Ha, ha.

Let the Biomeding tour get you to Uganda also we will wellcome you in the pearl of Africa, in Uganda we had formed an association of Biomedical engineers and Technicians but this collapsed due the funding it collapsed 6 years ago when DANIDA withdrew sponsorship , we still need to revive it but lurk sponsorship, but the Biomed guys here are still very few and even in the Country no Instution of learning has started training in that area, some o us who have managed to get trainings abroad are still lucky, its then us who would train others
