Bug Bear Sending equipment to us for repair without any info whatsoever e.g. fault description ward who sent it.
Waiting 3 weeks,
Then complaining to us because we have sent it back, by investigating the asset register to the owning dept.
Then the ward complain saying they were short and borrowed it from the owner ward and still need it, but the owner ward won't lend it to them because they didn't look after it the first time.
Now they say it's our fault the ward is short and want us to sort it out.

If they realy do need more equipment then it should be explained to them how the local equipment bids process is activated. They will get the equipment they need and your department will get the kudos for helping them out.

Crikey, there's a few bug bears here. I'm pleased to say,so far (as as equipment link nurse) I've not done any of those things!!! ;0)
If I am really lost as to why something is not working when it should be, I take it down in person and describe as best I can its 'syptoms' as sometimes its difficult to put these on the cards.

How about getting called to wards 'cause the SureTemp thermometers aren't working. Reason batteries exhausted. When you point this out you get told "Yeah we knew that, but we don't bother ordering them anymore!"

Steve,
We don't supply disposable batteries for bits of kit. 'They', know that, so, if they haven't bothered to stock some... tough.
Why do they always try and get us to supply them with 'a handful' of AA and AAA batteries around this time of year?
Cheers Mark

That's just the sort of thing that makes me think that contracting out of biomed tech services is the only way to progress, Steve. If they were billed for the batteries plus time at the hourly rate perhaps that would think again about being so flippant! Mark, the "company" would be more than happy to sell 'em batteries (or anything else their little hearts desire). Failing that, Tesco's is just down the road, is it not?

Another gem today: A TENS came in "dropped on floor, not worked since" There was no physical damage but sure enough, it didn't turn on. First thing I did was to take a shufty at the battery and guess what? The person had inserted the PP3 battery without removing the rubber cap from the positive terminal!
