I've just come upon this old thread by chance. It's interesting how many of the guys mention retirement (it's almost as if they're looking forward to it)! A bit of light relief, perhaps?

I noticed Geoff didn't put his age!
I'm 44 this month (happy birthday and all that. 17 years at sunny Hereford during that time BSc Hons OU, Management Executive Diploma (Post Grad.)
Previously Field Service engineer Destructive testing.
Service Engineer Non Destructive testing (HNC, ONC Electronics)
Still 5ft11and a quarter with my own hair but I seem to have acquired someone else’s waist line.

For anybody who's really interested (?), full disclosure has always been available via my profile on this website. After all (as it says in the song), my heart is an open book! By the way, it interests me how many guys have been able to stay put in one place for so many years, whilst others have tended to roam around, not only from place to place, but (in some cases) through quite a number of "mini-careers" ( aka, "previous lives"). For the record, I've always been a bit of a roamer myself, whilst being more or less able to "keep the faith" (allegiance to biomed) along the way.

Age is but a number!Yes, while I can guess that you will indeed be the young pup amongst the august pipe-smokers and greybeards of your department, Adam, I don't consider 24 years old to be particularly young myself (when I consider what I - and my contemporaries at that time - was doing, and had already done at that age)! But, oh to have the chance to become 24 again! Life is precious, Mate. Seize every moment of it!

Unfortunately? Ive always been in the medical side of work since I left school as my dad owns a company that sells surgical instruments and what not... Then some how got into medical engineering... few years down the line here I am now.
Maybe one day you can fill me in what you were doing at my age Geoff
If I could turn the clock back, I don’t think I would change much. I have my own house, new car and I like being in the EBME world. Always an interesting day normally...Smerking at the questions you get asked in a hospital
Saying that..one thing i would change is how far i drive to work! 50mins to get to work! lol

Maybe one day you can fill me in what you were doing at my age Geoff ... what's that, my favourite topic? But others would find it a bit boring, I should imagine (but, if you're really that intrigued, feel free to check-out my on-line stuff). But (and more importantly), if you're happy, and feel secure, where you are, move closer to work! I know that moving is a pain, but having done it a zillion times myself, I think I can say that you'll be glad you made the effort! Own house, new car? Man, you and I are on different wavelengths, completely (must be a generation thing, I guess)! PS: yes, it's nice out in the shires at Hereford!

Been in EBME 2.5 years, No House, Old car, lol. Did my HND a few years back. Hoping to get some work out is OZ, fingers crossed on that one.

DW - Age 40 - 8 years working in the EBME enviroment but it feels alot longer. I was thinking about changing my name to DF after seeing this due to my crap Golf Game.
