Hi All
Someone must be able to give me the instructions on how to do this?
So I have an Ipod(4G), on my pc and a fairly large library of songs, I've just bought my wife a "shuffle" which she intends to use at the gym, so..... how do I use 2 ipods on the same pc without messing things up, the more details the better? I spoke to a nice chap at my local Apple store who to be fair would be better employed elsewhere, so much for knowing your products!!

Matt I don't have the details with me to hand, but you can set up 2 accounts on the same PC and copy whatever playlists you want to the second account. If you go into Help in iTunes it is listed there.

I gather there is a way of doing it with just the one profile/account and just using a playlist to update the shuffle? without affecting the other.

I wouldn't suggest doing it this way, but you can highlight/tick the tracks you want to download to the Shuffle and in the options, highlight update only selected tracks. This is long winded and it is easier in the long run to set up a separate iTunes file for the Shuffle. You can still use the same account as your classic iPod for downloading.

Matt, Have one account, and load music to 3 ipods from it. I only used the info in the help sections of iTunes. And all work well. I think the only thing I had to do was give each a name.

If you don't mind having the same music on both devices then you can simply set both up on the same iTunes account.
If, however, you wish to only put part of your music selection on the shuffle (due to its capacity) or have different music on each then you can create separate playlists for both and go into the iPod sync settings to tell iTunes with playlist to sync with which device.

Hi Scottish
That sounds kinda what I had in mind, i.e just "drag" the songs I want on the shuffle into a playlist from the library and sync it,do you know if I have to do anything with my classic or itunes settings before I connect the shuffle for the first time? because as you say it cant sync the full library due to the capacity of the shuffle.

It would probably be best to go into iTunes preferences and turn off automatic syncing before connecting the shuffle for the first time.
That would allow you to set up the sync preferences before the first sync. Once you have done that you can turn auto sync back on.

Hi, This Apple knowledge based article provides instructions on how to create and select multiple iTunes libraries. Following these instructions will enable you to select multiple libraries from one user account when you start the iTunes application. Works for me on both Mac's and PC.
