Well some companies it's probably a small price but others, not mentioning any names, could result in a double or triple price increase! I think we've had the conversation before about sourcing batteries only from the OEM in this thread, but surely the answer in the future is make sure cost of future spares is considered when the unit is first purchased.

Yes ... Valve Regulated Lead-Acid. More or less synonymous with Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA), the rechargeable batteries used in your infusion pumps etc. For more, see this link. And this one. smile

I've just got around to reading a magazine I receive for the electrical industry and have just got to the back page and was greated by a full page ad for Yuasa. In it they proudly announce "Yuasa The most reliable industrial batteries in the world" and later they report them suitable for UPS, Telecom, Electronics, Mobility, Security, Emergency Lighting and wait for Medical.

To me the information reported above and the ad just says one thing, Yuasa the most reliable batteries in the world, but it's not our fault if they packup on you, so please don't sue us.

It's well known that "writers" of advertising copy are the world's richest source of "Baboon Speak" (or BS, which may also stand just as well for two other words). Notice they have used the world industrial. That would have been deliberate. No mention of life-critical medical equipment, though (whatever that means).

Meanwhile ...

... someone needs to have a chat with Lee. He seems to have lost the guiding light to the true path. Perhaps it's not shining too brightly at Hereford! smile

As I say "In cases like these", by the time you have sourced an alternative which matches the equipments specification and taken on the risk of fitting a non OEM approved spare part, you have cost the trust money.

Let them do the donkey work - after all they will recoup the cost of the sourcing and in the meantime you can push another 12 jobs out the door and keep your customers happy - which is primarily the job you are paid to do!

Latest news is that we have received batteries same spec as Yuasa ones from Euro Energy with no statement re not for medical devices on them.
Guess what if you check the battery over it appears to be made by a Yuasa sub division.

Batteries are a sore point with me at the moment! I have just paid 100 UKP for a new battery for my Harley D, We figure the battery cost 20 UKP and the Harley Label cost 80 UKP and guess what Karl? Underneath the Harley Label is a stamp, and guess what it says? YUASA!
