You're a lucky man, Kawa. Myself, I can claim but a brief encounter with Dr. Richard Eltringham of Glostavent fame. smile

More on the Glostavent, the key to which is the oxygen concentrator. You'll also notice that it, too, uses the Manley Multivent.

Afternote:- the Glostavent currently being marketed includes the Diamedica AP ventilator, rather than a Manley Multivent from Penlon.

Geoff
The Dr. Eltringham that I knew from Gloucester General is Roger (not Richard), is there another one or is it his son by any chance?

No, you're right, Kawa ... the esteemed gentleman's name is indeed Roger (I've just checked my notes). Apologies all round!

So, you know both Dr. Eltringham and his famous kit then (also the Oxyvent as well, if my memory serves)?

It's the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital these days, by the way. And Diamedica market the Glostavent now. smile

My mistake Geoff, it was the Gloucester Royal back in the late 70's as well when I used to do work on the Renal Unit. I'm afraid that there are quite a few senior moments these days!!!

Inspiratory/Expiratory valves originated from a Morris car.

My Dad Whilst serving in Burma with the REME (WWII) once made an Army surgeon a blood pump made from a lorry oil/diesel pump. Totally off thread I know but just came to mind with November nearly upon us.

Best wishes,

For those interested in the history of ventilation Draeger produced a book that I downloaded from their web site. It starts with the clockwork Pulmotor of 1907 made by Heinrich Draeger.
This was a while ago and cannot find it now.
But there is an updated version that I have not read yet but looks just as interesting.

How come a photographer just happened to be present when Heinrich Drager received his patent from the postman in 1907???
