Looking into possible changing our scales what would be the best unit on the market at the moment for flat, column, wheelchair and baby scales?

Having reviewed our scales earlier in the year in line with much publised LACORS Medical Weighing Project, we found SECA offered the best support including training.
LACORS have recently published their findings on http://www.lacors.gov.uk/lacors/PressReleaseDetails.aspx?id=20486

Did LACORS ever publish what they meant by "inaccurate" (weighing scales)? Plus or minus what, I wonder? smile

I take it they mean the scales are outwith the maximum permissible error for their weight range. As all hospitals are supposed to use class 3 scales, so this means an error of as little as 50g - 100g as derived from the NAWI regulations.
They are being a little picky as far as I'm concerned. A patient's weight never needs to be that accurate or we'ed have to strip every time the doc wanted to weigh us.

Absolutely (and my point, exactly)! It's all just another waste of tax payers' money. The only difference is that this time it comes from the "rate payer", rather than the "exchequer". But either way, it's still my (our) money, and I would rather have spent it on something useful! frown

No doubt it will be height measurement (or eye charts) next. Or, maybe that's already been done? How about standardized urine samples? After all, it's something that the present regime seems very good at taking.

Does anyone have a detailed procedure for checking the accuracy of patient weighing scales (both adult and baby)? (Weight ranges used, inspection interval, etc.).

Also, is this procedure derived form any official documentation from the manufacturer/care provider/governing body)

We use SECA scales in our hospital as well.
Very good scales - fast unit response, accurate, consistent and sturdy.
