Speaking of standards, does anyone have a copy of 60601-2-1 I could pinch?
I love deadlines, I like the wooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Life would be so much easier and better if all of EU moved over to the UK 13 amp socket. Oh yes! But we all know what the chances are of that happening! Non! Nein Danke! It would have nothing to do with the practicalities, but would be purely political. Regarding your experiences on the committee, are you able to share with us what the objections of the others actually were?

Hi Geoff,
Greetings from Medica, Dusseldorf. Chose your car park in the Midlands and I'll bring the notes......
I'll dig them up and share them as it is public knowledge and available from the net. John

Let people decide on their choices.
The problem is if we all choose what tests to do or not to do there is no standard. In the event of an incident where someone was injured and litigation ensued, it would be safe to stand in court and say you followed the recommendations of a published standard rather than say you made the choice of tests or otherwise yourself. It is clear from the other comments there seems to be no technical reasons not to adopt 62353 as long as your test equipment will allow. (I am sure with a little thought some of the current 60601 testers could be adapted to work with some of the test methods described in 62353?) At least with 62353 you have an recognised 'in service' standard on your side. As JB says let those who objected provide the technical reasons so they can be fully discussed and resolved. I suspect we will never hear from them as if they did have this technical evidence they would have used it within the committee! The UK might have won the argument for the 13A plug but I don't think we will over 62353!

As I seem to be a connoisseur of motorway service areas these days, you might have to settle for a cup of tea at £ 1.90 a go, John. Meanwhile, have a brätwurst for me! The UK might have won the argument for the 13A plug ... I must have missed that one, Mike. But, regarding a Standard for electrical safety testing in the field (that is, rather than in the factory) ... don't worry, I'm going to draft my own and publish it in the Public Domain! It will be aimed at adequately demonstrating basic electrical safety of in-service equipment. To maximize its appeal, it will be laid out in a menu format (for those who love to mix 'n' match), and will require nothing more complicated (or expensive) than a multimeter off eBay.

The star's name [RIGEL] comes from its location at the "left foot" of Orion. It is a contraction of Riǧl Ǧawza al-Yusra, this being Arabic for "Left Foot of the Central One". Another Arabic name is رجل الجبار riǧl al-ǧabbār, "the foot of the great one" (giant, conqueror, etc.), which is also the source of the variant name Algebar. It also has the alternative traditional names Algebar or Elgebar, but these are rarely used.
..from Wikipedia.
So there you go, truely international (or even cosmic) connections! Sorry for the gobbledegook, it's Arabic Script, and looked OK in the preview!

Yes, I know...not the most helpful contribution! After I saw it's final formatting, I wanted to delete it but couldn't. Think of it as a glitch, and hopefully my next entry (whatever it may be) will be slightly more useful!

No ... think of it as a challenge! I believe you may have hit upon a way of communicating (in open forum) with those willing to put in a bit of effort by looking up the relevant character set. And then, having converted to Arabic characters, deciphering what it means! Obviously a Grammar School Boy, methinks. But next time, let's have Japanese characters! Thinking about it, there's nothing to prevent any two (or more) parties communicating using their own secret code, is there (Huw)? Perhaps we've stumbled upon the way to convey "sensitive" fault finding information without broadcasting it to the whole world?
